Transport

Public transport - Chepstow railway station provides direct links with Newport, Cardiff, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Birmingham and Nottingham. Travelling to or from London or Bristol requires only one change at either Newport or Severn Tunnel Junction. The bus station has local services as well as links to Cardiff, Swansea, Bristol and London. In addition to these the award winning Grass Routes scheme available to Monmouthshire residents (and visitors using accommodation registered with the scheme) delivers a service to areas where there may not be a regular bus route, ideal for those linear walks.

Grass Routes

The Grass Routes transport scheme is a demand responsive flexible bus service, operated by a low floor, fully accessible vehicles with volunteer drivers. The scheme is operated on a membership basis and is open to all members of the community.

To become a member you must complete an application form. Forms are available at all one stop shops or from the Monmouthshire County Council's website or alternatively by contacting 0800 085 8015.

Once signed up, members of the scheme need only call a free phone number 0800 085 8015 (open 9:00 - 16:30) at least 24hrs in advance to book a journey with the Grass Routes support team.

There are scheduled routes for each day between main towns, which are flexible depending on demand. The bus operates between the hours of 09:00 and 16:30 depending on route. Monday to Friday, serving all main towns of Monmouthshire and outlying areas.

The cost of membership is a one off payment of £5.00 per household of up to four members. Each single journey booked cost £3.00 for adults and £1.50 per child under 16, a return journey on the same day costs £5.00 per adult and £2.50 for under 16s. Concessionary passes are now accepted on all daily Grass Routes Services.
