Devauden Loop

Basic Directions
  • Start walk at Devauden Green facing main road; walk left onto the main road passing the Local shop and garage on your left.
  • Turn right at the fingerpost immediately by the church. Carry on down this track passing a pond on your left and keep ahead following direction of way marker. At a 'T' junction turn left  and walk along this track until you reach Nightingale Cottage. Turn right and follow direction of way markers passing through a small metal gate and keeping Cuckoo Cottage on your left . With a hedge on your right continue until you reach a stile next to a metal gate into a plantation.
  • Proceed through the plantation remaining on the path until the forest track bears to the right. You carry on straight ahead continuing on level ground.  Continue through the edge of the wood, climb stile and go straight on until you reach a corner where there are two farm gates. Go through the first gate nearest the trough and keep to path alongside the hedge to the right of you until you reach the corner at the bottom of the field - it can be muddy here. Proceed through the gate on the right and then right again almost doubling back on yourself on a fairly defined farm track until you reach Panta Farm drive.
  • Enter the farm through the gate and zig zag your way past farm buildings following the way markers and turn left at the fingerpost by a barn.  Bear left diagonally across field passing a number of solar panels on your left until you reach the left corner at the bottom of the field. Go through the gate and over a brook  through a second gate.  Follow a defined track uphill and through a gate. Continue uphill and at the top left hand corner go through a gate on your left and keep ahead to a stile ahead of you which leads into Fedw Pool. Climb stile, turn left and cross the wooden bridge of this large pond. Ignore the stile ahead of you instead turn right keeping the pond to your right.  Follow way markers on your left  steadily climbing until you reach a stile leading on to the road. Turn right onto the road and continue for a short distance passing a house with converted buildings on your right until you reach a fork in the road.  Take the left fork passing Lower Veddw house on your left.  Go over stile and enter the wood and continue on path until you reach a wider forest track. Turn left and  immediately right following way marker to walk steadily uphill on this path until you reach the road.  Cross here and enter Chepstow Park Wood.
  • Just before the barrier turn right at a way marked path and remain on this path until you emerge onto a wider forest track. Turn right and remain on this track for quite a distance until you reach a junction of forest paths. Immediately before turn right descending down a way marked path and continue in the same direction until you reach Devauden Village Hall and the start point at Devauden Green.
