Distance: 6 miles
Start: 9.30 at the Fountain Inn Trellech Grange, Llanishen NP16 6QW Approx Time: 3 - 4 hours Difficulty: Strenuous / energetic Description: A walk with great views and lots of history! Across fields to Little Wenallt Wood, before following a picturesque stream with bluebells and the remains of an old mill. A steep ascent through Ravensnest Wood to the Cot, then down through Glyn Wood to the bottom of the Angiddy Valley before ascending steeply for a second time through Lower Hale Wood and returning to the Fountain Inn via Wain-y-Parc where there's the option of lunch or refreshment. After lunch at 2 pm meeting at Trellech outside the Lion Pub car park please feel to join the group visiting the Lost City of Trellech, once the largest town in Wales where Stuart Wilson will be our guide owner of the site. Distance: 4.5 miles
Start: 10.30 in The Sloop Inn car park, Llandogo NP25 4TW Time: Allow 2 - 3 hours Difficulty: Moderate Description: This lovely walk takes in the river bank of the Wye, a gentle climb in woodland with fabulous views to the Wye Valley and a series of waterfalls known as Cleddon Shoots. We zig zag down the beautiful leafy Cleddon Gorge which is in fact part of a now forgotten 19th Century Tourist Path. On returning to the start we have the opportunity to visit Wye Valley Arts Centre, see work on display and hear about the launch of their charity KIDZART offering children from disadvantaged and troubled backgrounds the opportunity to work with skilled tutors to make problem solving an exciting fun and transforming experience. Start: 10.30 at The Lion Inn car park, Church Street Trellech NP25 4PA Approx Time: Approx 3 hours Difficulty: Moderate Description: After a walk through beautiful countryside from Trellech to Cleddon Hall, Ninewells Wood, the Angiddy Valley and Hygga we will return to historic Trellech where Stephanie and Alan Poulter will show us important and interesting sites from pre-history, Norman and Medieval times to present day excavations some of which they are custodians. After an optional pub lunch at the Lion, Stuart Wilson will be our guide through the Lost City of Trellech, once the largest town in Wales. Distance: 6.5 miles
Start: 10.30 outside the Tourist Information Centre, Bridge Street Chepstow NP16 5EY Time: Allow 4.5 hours Difficulty: Moderate Description: A walk from Tidenham Chase car park to Devil’s Pulpit then back to Chepstow led by the National Trail Officer for Offa's Dyke Path, Rob Dingle. After visiting one of the iconic view points of the whole Offa’s Dyke Path looking down to Tintern Abbey, we then walk back to Chepstow along the trail, walking on or beside the 1250AD Offa’s Dyke for some of the way. The return walk takes in some other stunning views of the Wye Valley, Severn Estuary and Wintours Leap. This walk is not suitable for dogs Transport is included in the ticket price, kindly provided by Chepstow and District Round table. Start: 10.30 at Lower Wyndcliffe Car Park on the A466 between St Arvans and Tintern Time: Allow 2 to 3 hours Difficulty: Moderate Description: Rob Bacon is Conservation Officer for Natural Resources Wales in the ‘Wye Natural Resource Management Team Valley Woodlands’ and will be leading you around the woodlands that surround the Wyndcliffe area near Chepstow. These woods are a Special Area of Conservation designated/protected by UK and European law for their natural and wildlife significance and this is a unique opportunity to hear the reasons why they are so important. Rob's enthusiasim and knowledge of the area is infectious.Plus of course there will be some splendid views! Distance: Approx 5 miles
Start: 2.00 at Wentwood Reservoir car park, Millbrook Lane, Llanvaches NP26 3AZ Time: Approx 3 hours Difficulty: Moderate. Steep ascent at start then easy walking along forest tracks. Description: The route circumnavigates Gray Hill giving fantastic views over the Severn Estuary and Bristol Channel, visiting a small ancient stone circle. Following on through woodland and open tracks into Wentwood forest tracks back to our start point. Dogs very welcome - plenty of opportunities for social well behaved dogs to walk off lead.
