Walk 12 Complete St Tewdrigs Trail

Distance:       11 miles
Start:              10.15 am  Meet outside St Tewdrigs Church Mathern

                        Transport provided from finish point at The Old Station, Tintern NP16 7NX
Time:               5 - 6 hours
Difficulty:         Moderate
                       
Description:   This walk has been so popular it has now become one of our firm favourites and many people were unable to join the walk last year due it being fully booked. Starting off at St Tewdrigs church at Mathern we make our way through this picturesque village and on to the charming village of Mounton across open farmland and woods, to pass Rogerstone Grange and then a steady climb to Gaer Hill Fort with far reaching views to the Cotswolds and Forest of Dean.  We then head down the stunning Angiddy Valley with its industrial heritage, through Tintern and back along the banks of a beautiful stretch of the River Wye before finishing at the Old Railway Station where refreshments will be available. UNSUITABLE for dogs 

What to bring:  Snacks, drink plus a camera

Walk 13 Caldicot Curiosities & Dewstow Gardens

Distance:        5 miles
Start:              10.00 am Meet on the grass at Dewstow Gardens ST 467888.
Time:              Around 2-3  hours
Difficulty:       Moderate
                       
Description:   Starting at Dewstow hidden gardens we take a short 5 mile walk around the local countryside taking in fine views of the Bristol Channel, quarries, woods, wildlife reserves, golf courses, an old mill and even an odd totem pole.  At the end of the walk you may choose to go on a self guided tour of the renown hidden gardens and grottoes at Dewstow at a special reduced rate of £5.50.  There is a cafe at the gardens where you can take refreshments.

Walk 15 History and ecology of Lancaut Peninsula

Distance:        6 miles
Start:              10.15 am outside Chepstow Tourist Information Centre 
Time:               Around 3 - 4 hours
Difficulty:        Moderate with some fairly steep climbs and descents 

Description:   Last year we did this wonderful walk focusing on geology.  This year we will be guided by Dr Glyn Jones who will guide us through the history and ecology of this remarkable landscape. The nature reserve is protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and managed by Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. Stunning Limestone cliffs and woods, riverbanks, limestone grasslands and the recently renovated ruins of St James Chapel.  The walk will commence after the welcome ceremony in Beaufort Square. UNSUITABLE for dogs

Walk 16 The Tidenham Heathlands & Devils Pulpit

Distance:          6 miles
Start:                 11.15 Meet at Offa's Dyke Car Park B4228 Chepstow to Coleford road
Time:                 3 hours
Difficulty:          Moderate

Description:      This walks takes in the glorious views of the Devils Pulpit and across the wildlife rich heathlands of Tidenham, the Park and Poors Allotment a large nationally important acid grassland and heathlands site with fabulous views of the Severn Estuary.  The walk passes through two areas of managed forest and takes us past the King Yew, one of the stoutest conifers in the Forest of Dean.

Walk 17 A dusk walk Trellech Beacon & Stargazing

Distance:       2 miles
Start:              6.30 pm meet at The Lion Inn car park, Trellech NP25 4PA  ST501055 
Time:              2 hours
Difficulty:       Easy no stiles

Description:  A magical evening walk at dusk around Trellech Beacon and an area being managed by Gwent Wildlife Trust to restore the Heathland.  Stunning views to the Wye Valley, Black Mountains, Cotswolds and Malverns in the distance.  After the walk we'll meet a member of Monmouth Astronomical Research Society who, weather permitting, will be giving a talk and identifying some of the stars in the night sky. Alternative arrangements will be made if the weather is not kind to us. UNSUITABLE for dogs

What to bring:  Torch and binoculars and a telescope if you have one
